In 1999, the International Coach Federation (ICF) conducted a nationwide survey asking what benefits clients receive from coaching. The respondents attributed the following benefits to coaching:

More fun and free time - 31.9%
More income - 25.7%
Additional highlights of the survey findings conclude:
80% of respondents say they turn to their coach for help on time management
73.3% for career management
73.8% for business advise
58.6% on relationships/family issues
51.9% on physical/wellness issues
39.5% on career, financial and lifestyle goal setting issues
84.8% of respondents said the main role of their coach is to be a sounding board to listen to them and give them honest feedback
78.1% called the coach a motivator,
56.7% a friend
50.5% a mentor
46.7% a business consultant
41% a teacher
70% of respondents said their investment in a coach was "very valuable"
